Leaving an abusive relationship can be a very hard thing to do, this could be a lover or a controlling and manipulative parent. Any form of abusive relationship can damage the way you think about relationships in general, the relationship you have just had may be the only form that you knew. What does unconditional love really mean?
It means to love someone without conditions, such as in an abusive relationship where their are conditions, the conditions being to take abuse, to appease or to be controlled.
In unconditional love, there is nothing like this you are loved for you, nothing else what-so-ever just YOU.
Although this sounds like a very simple process, for those abused it can be a very difficult concept to understand or to believe, it changes everything you have ever understood or known. It is enlightening to know there is something different, however it can also be very scary as it is something unknown, how do you react, how do you deal with this form of affection, is it real and what part do you play in the relationship.
